About

The Countries API is a small, fast REST API built on top of the GeoNames dataset. It provides access to 252 countries, administrative divisions (ADM1 states/provinces) and populated places with coordinates — all stored in MariaDB and refreshed monthly. Every response is JSON and every protected route expects an API key via the Authorization header. Front-ends consume the API through an authenticated proxy inside the ITSCWF platform, so the API key is never exposed in the browser.
